Friday evening was the time of the year to dress up like a zombie, alien, witch, clown, vampire or whatever scares you. Since I just came back from the land of Halloween this eerie holiday could not go by unnoticed.
I bought this amazing Halloween baking form in San Francisco and now it was the perfect moment to use it! Although my “dress-up” cupcakes do not look always as elegant as I want them to look I am quite proud at these Halloween treats.
Since I am a “working person” now I have to plan my baking a bit more than I used to. To save time I decided to use the all-in speculaascake mix I once received at a baking workshop of AVEVE to make my little, eerie ghosts. Normally I insist on making my own cakes, pies and treats, but I got this one for free, so why not?
To be honest it did not really save time, because I also made vanilla cakes (recipe) and it took as long as the speculaascake. Nevertheless, the flavour and texture were very tasty. The only downside was that I did not notice the promised crunchy pieces of speculaas in the cake.
And after 2,5 hours of baking and decorating the spooky Halloween treats were ready to scare everyone out!!!
!!!Happy Halloween!!!
Apart from the little ghosts I also made creepy pumpkins, which were ordinary vanilla cupcakes. By adding a bit of orange colour to the batter they got a nice pumpkin orange glow over them. The spooky tombstones are simple, crispy cookies flavoured with speculaas species and covered with a sugar topping.
